‘Tis Christmas and halls are decked….

Ahhh Christmas, the season, the decorating, the spirit, the feeling, I love it. I love it more now than I ever did as a kid and I love it even more so since having children. It’s the joy of sharing traditions and memories with our children and the belief in magic and fantasy. There’s nothing wrong with a healthy, heartfelt dose and escape with fantasy and magic. I love the whimsy and magic that is created with Christmas decorating and putting up a Christmas tree with twinkling lights and watching my children lay on the floor before slumber, watching flickering…

Gran’s Christmas Shortbread…..

Shortbread and Christmas are a big deal around here. As far as Ben is concerned you can’t have Christmas without shortbread and by shortbread he means shortbread made by his Gran or from her recipe. Not only is the making and having of shortbread a big deal here with us, but it extends to Ben’s parents and his brother’s family too. It’s become a Christmas tradition with Ben’s family that his mum and dad, along with his brother and his wife and ourselves that we all attempt to cook shortbread for Christmas using Gran’s recipe. Every Christmas we test each…

At Home Style and Working With My Girl…..

Yesterday was the start of term four with school going back after having two weeks with Cohen on holidays, so we were right back into our normal morning routines. I’ve also had Sarah on holidays and she’s back off kindy tomorrow. With school, kindy and family day care all back into the full swing of things this week, my working weeks will regain some normalcy again until the end of the school year. It’s always a juggle with trying to run and build a business when it comes around to school holiday time, as I need to find different ways…

Random Finds from Random Fun Adventures with the Kids…..

There have been many random adventures lately whether it be a quick drop in to an op shop, a market day or some early morning starts and hitting some garage sales. At any time regardless of the adventure I nearly always have at least one if not all the kids with me. I don’t mind having them on most treasure hunting adventures, as I see how much they are learning about various things along the way. Like the social interactions, money management negotiating, inspecting items, using their imaginations and more. I certainly think the kids are learning valuable lessons along…

Juggling, Autism and Celebrating Our Differences……

I always set out to try and conquer and succeed at all my crazy ideas and thoughts. I’m a hopeless creative with a million ideas and dreams floating around. Ben hears many a crazy ideas and thoughts pass my lips about what I think I’m going to do, but sometimes I feel for you all reading this that you do too. I know this year through various blog posts I have mentioned new things I have wanted to bring to the blog and if you’ve noticed some of them haven’t happened.  There’s good reason for it, but it doesn’t mean…

Expanding on the Children’s Home Library on the Cheap……

Building and expanding on your children’s at home library is without a doubt, something worthwhile investing in doing on a periodical basis and it shouldn’t have to come at the cost of brand new books. Young readers learn through repetition, and the reading of  well loved favourite stories over and over again as it gives them confidence. Therefore much loved and favoured stories and characters are always good to add to your child’s/children’s book collection. But how and where can you find books cheaply or in other cases for nothing at all? Hopefully the following list and suggestion will give…

When a Found Vintage Treasure Give Your Children One of Your Childhood Experiences…..

When I was little I loved visiting my Nan and Pops home they lived in a four bedroom Queenslander home in Brisbane and by virtue of Nan and Pop having had eight children of their own there were all sorts of interesting old things around their house to do. If you weren’t helping Nan in the kitchen or cracking macadamia nuts under the house with a hammer and brick, you might of been upstairs pretending you could play the harmonica or piano accordion or even the piano like the best.  Although there was never any everyday need for it at…

Today my darling girl you turn four, your daddy and I hang on to every last moment and trace of the babyness in you. It swells our heart with pride and love that we created such a glorious, free spirited human being in you. You’re daddy’s little girl and mumma’s little vintage princess. You have special little finger waves for just your daddy and you gush over pretty old things with your mumma, you love treasures and you say thanks it’s vintage darling when I tell you I like your dress. Happy Birthday My Wee Vintage Man You’re One Today……

Oh my goodness how the last year has whizzed on by. This time last year things looked a lot different and so did I and our little family. Here we are today, one year old. Happy Birthday my gorgeous wee man. Fraser you’re quite simply delicious. You are every bit of everything I could have ever imagined and more. Just as your brother and sister have, you have brought more peace and healing to my heart. You are our last bubba, and the last puzzle piece to our family. I’m so utterly blessed beyond words to have you choose me…

AHOY Sailor Boy Gets Christened……

We have had an incredible week and yesterday we added to that and had a special occasion with our wee man Fraser being christened. It was quite a hilarious morning at the church, between the delirium of Fraser’s godfather having only had two hours sleep and taking selfies, getting the giggles and Cohen announcing he knew all about evolution loud enough for most of the church to hear. Our kids have a wide knowledge of a lot of things, and there are very few subjects that are off limits, as a result it’s always interesting the times and places they…
