Why we’re doing Elf on the Shelf this Christmas

Why we’re doing Elf on the Shelf this Christmas

The Elf on the Shelf phenomena has grown with incredible popularity since 2005 when they hit the festive scene. Since becoming parents we have resisted joining the masses. However there’s good reason why we’re doing Elf on the Shelf this Christmas. The reasons are not to turn children into little angels. A look on Pinterest for Elf on the Shelf ideas and you will be swamped with boards of all sorts of shenanigans elves get up to around the world at this time of year. As much as there is a love and excitement for the concept of Elf on…

AHOY Sailor Boy Gets Christened……

We have had an incredible week and yesterday we added to that and had a special occasion with our wee man Fraser being christened. It was quite a hilarious morning at the church, between the delirium of Fraser’s godfather having only had two hours sleep and taking selfies, getting the giggles and Cohen announcing he knew all about evolution loud enough for most of the church to hear. Our kids have a wide knowledge of a lot of things, and there are very few subjects that are off limits, as a result it’s always interesting the times and places they…

Oh Vintage Christmas Tree, Oh Vintage Christmas Tree….

Like many other families last Sunday we broke out the Christmas tree and decorations. I had been looking forward to it all week and had plans and images in my head of us all being happy and joyous, decorating the tree, listening to my Rat Pack Christmas Carols CD and capturing some special moments. Let’s just say things started well, then we discovered and remembered that we didn’t have any Christmas lights because we had to throw them out last year. So late Sunday afternoon in the midst of it all we had to pile in the car and go…

Heirloom Sideboard is Part of the Family……

As most of you know now my in laws have moved in the last few weeks and it has been super crazy around here. We’ve been selling off pieces for them and of our own to make way for old family pieces we have taken on. They’re pieces that hold sentimental value for Ben, having grown up with them and of which have been around longer then he has.Our pre-1930’s piano is off to a new home, which has allowed for us to make way for this family piece. The piano is going to a gentlemen who is retiring next…

Pre-Baby Family Fun Day…..

Well goodness me with a few days at the end of last week with a little momentum behind us, and the kids pretty much on the mend, I was excited for Friday to arrive. Ben took the day off and we headed out for a family fun day with the kids. We’re wanting to give them as many fun and memorable moments at present before bubs arrives. I had my digital SLR in hand and I was snapping away at the kids enjoying themselves. We had fish and chips for lunch and just enjoyed being with each other. When we…

Receiving a Family Heirloom…..

This week I have something very special to share, as we’ve be given a hand me down, part of our inheritance of sorts and it’s a beautiful family heirloom. My in-laws have updated their bedroom furniture and have decided it’s time to pass down this silky oak dresser. The dresser once belong to my mother in laws great aunt who used to own a guest house in the gold rush highlands of Victoria. The dresser would now be over a hundred years old by all accounts and still has it’s original glass top. Ben is so chuffed to have this piece…
