How to Clean Vintage Squeak Toys…..

If you’re a lover of vintage squeak toys you’ll know that many collectible ones have textured bodies with lots a bumps and grooves where dirt and grime might of collected in over the years. I always follow a general rule with cleaning or laundering any vintage item whether it be a toy, clothing or furniture and that’s to try the gentlest methods first and get more aggressive with my approach depending on how dirty or soiled an item is.  With vintage rubber squeak toys I like to do the following: * First thing use a damp cloth to wipe over…

Cute Vintage Car Brooch & Up-cycled Puzzle Piece Brooches……

A car you say! We may have recently gone mad and bought an antique piano that the Big V is hell bent on restoring and contemparising (it’s a word even if I make it up), but I’m not that mad to do the same with a car. Well not yet anyway, maybe one day, but not now. So to show you I’m not that mad I recently picked up myself this cool little vintage car brooch. It’s a nice departure from my usual girly type brooches. Master V is trying to convince me that he could wear my new to me car…

Valentines Day: Paper Storybook Fortune Cookies…..

Have you got a little something sweet sort for your lover, lover, your or your secret sweetheart for Valentines Day? Do you need an idea that’s super quick fun and affordable?I’ve stumbled upon the idea of paper fortune cookies before on the interwebs, so I thought I’d give it ago with some pages from an old vintage children’s book that couldn’t be salvaged and I tweaked the method of making them a little for what I thought was a better result for me. What you will need is :: old storybook pages or other paper you desire, heavier weighted papers…

Take a Day Off from the Online and Be Blessed with Beautiful Moments……

I took a day off from social media yesterday, it’s a good thing to do sometimes I think; at least I find for me it’s a good thing to do.  It was a wonderfully relaxed and fun day pottering about, enjoying being at home, enjoying my kids and their crazy antics. Enjoying crafting and playing with ideas, fondling vintage girls frocks and selling more and posting them off to new loving homes. I folding floral vintage linens and played with new combinations for Sarah’s bedroom. I took moments for tea and Frankie, while my little the kids napped……it was bliss.…

The Power of Words and Validation…..

You know those moments when someone can say or do something that just fills up your soul and heart, immeasurably. When those moments come it isn’t until that moment in time you remember how nice it is to be  recognised and validated. Last week the Ben was on annual leave from work and he gave me two such moments.  Recently I’ve had a few people ask if the Ben reads my blog, in reply I’d chuckle and say: “Noooo”.  It doesn’t bother me to say no, I appreciate that not everything I say and or do is of interest to…

Vintage Suitcase Dog Bed…..

I have wanted to give my fur baby Jada some new bedroom decor for ages now. Everybody with fur or not deserves a little pretty in their life don’t they? So I set about making it happen, with this vintage Samsonite suitcase I picked up op shopping last year for $5. I’ve seen people go all out with these suitcase dog beds, cutting timber to size to put in proper little slates for a pillow or custom cut mattress to sit upon. Not that I don’t love my wee girl but, sometimes you got to make the job a little…

Boys Formal Waistcoat Vest Revamp…..

When op shopping I frequently see little boy waistcoat vests selling for next to nothing. I imagine they are often bought for a formal occasion like a wedding or christening and never worn again by these little men. So when I saw a little waistcoat vest with a weird bunny appliqué on it recently I knew there was a revamping project in the waiting. So with a few buttons and some off cuts of denim and a needle and thread, I was in business and whipped up this little revamp number whilst watching TV. I even used a bright red…

Vintage Button Hair Tie DIY/Tutorial

I’ve been a bit surprised by the reaction to the vintage button hair ties I made and posted this week. I’ve also received a few emails inquiring about them and a few questions about how they are made. I never imagined there would be such a reaction to them or would even want to know how to make them for themselves. Anyway as a result I thought others would want to know how to make them either for themselves or the little people in their life.  As a way of saying thank you for all your lovely comments and emails,…
