Gran’s Christmas Shortbread…..

Shortbread and Christmas are a big deal around here. As far as Ben is concerned you can’t have Christmas without shortbread and by shortbread he means shortbread made by his Gran or from her recipe. Not only is the making and having of shortbread a big deal here with us, but it extends to Ben’s parents and his brother’s family too. It’s become a Christmas tradition with Ben’s family that his mum and dad, along with his brother and his wife and ourselves that we all attempt to cook shortbread for Christmas using Gran’s recipe. Every Christmas we test each…

Our Mother’s Day….

On the weekends we have a tradition with the kids and they have a camp out in our bedroom on a Friday and Saturday night. We’re a very close and connected family and it’s something we love to do, our little loves are only little for such a short period of time……why not indulge their desires as well as ours. This morning I was woken by Cohen and Sarah quietly trying to tip toe out of our room to their daddy who had been up since the early hours and was tinkering on early morning projects in the garage. I…

To My Little Vintage Princess on Your Fourth Birthday….

Today my darling girl you turn four, your daddy and I hang on to every last moment and trace of the babyness in you. It swells our heart with pride and love that we created such a glorious, free spirited human being in you. You’re daddy’s little girl and mumma’s little vintage princess. You have special little finger waves for just your daddy and you gush over pretty old things with your mumma, you love treasures and you say thanks it’s vintage darling when I tell you I like your dress. You ask me when some of my treasures will…

A 2014 retrospective……

What a crazy ole year this year has been! I probably say that about ever year, but in my defense time just zips on by these days and then you find yourself sitting on the other end of another year asking yourself where the heck the year went. I’m thankful that I have my blog and various on line spaces, as they help document moments and remind me what has happened within the year. It’s easy to forgot some of the great moments throughout the year when the every day with kids gets chaotic and busy. At the end of…

Christmas Decorating Has Officially Commenced…..

I’m calling it and saying Christmas decorating has officially started here, despite the tree, lights and decorations still all being in the roof waiting for Ben to get up there and bring them down. I’m so excited that the first Christmas decoration in place around home is my fabulous find yesterday. For years I have been longing for a fabulous Christmas nutcracker but have never been willing to pay the extravagant prices I see on line from England and United States. But yesterday my longing and patience paid off when I stopped at just one more garage sale when I…

My 5 Top Tips for Thrifty Christmas Shopping for Non-Vintage Lovers……

Christmas is ahead and present plotting and planning are well underway for most families. When I was growing up Christmas in my family home was a pretty humble affair, there wasn’t any extravagance or excess. Christmas presents never consisted of the hottest new toy on the market, but rather things that were practical and useful or encouraged learning or physical activity. Gifts were accumulated by my mum who hunted down bargains and sales and diligently put things on lay-by. As for any other gifts they were often second hand items like bikes, a see-saw and a basketball hoop that were…

Happy Birthday My Wee Vintage Man You’re One Today……

Oh my goodness how the last year has whizzed on by. This time last year things looked a lot different and so did I and our little family. Here we are today, one year old. Happy Birthday my gorgeous wee man. Fraser you’re quite simply delicious. You are every bit of everything I could have ever imagined and more. Just as your brother and sister have, you have brought more peace and healing to my heart. You are our last bubba, and the last puzzle piece to our family. I’m so utterly blessed beyond words to have you choose me…

AHOY Sailor Boy Gets Christened……

We have had an incredible week and yesterday we added to that and had a special occasion with our wee man Fraser being christened. It was quite a hilarious morning at the church, between the delirium of Fraser’s godfather having only had two hours sleep and taking selfies, getting the giggles and Cohen announcing he knew all about evolution loud enough for most of the church to hear. Our kids have a wide knowledge of a lot of things, and there are very few subjects that are off limits, as a result it’s always interesting the times and places they…

Mums the word on Mother’s Day…..

Mother’s Day was on Sunday, and I needed to take yesterday as a go slow day to get back on top and organised again. I’ve been taking quite a few go slow days (okay maybe weeks) recently as Cohen, Sarah and Fraser are all going through developmental spurts and changes. I guess that’s going to happen with them being close in age five and three years old and nearly nine months old.  They’ve all been needing a lot more of me in recent times, which means I have had to slow down and pair back some of my commitments here…

Happy Birthday Boy, five today woohoo……

There is one great big excuse to slow down and enjoy this week. My big little boy is five today. That’s right the big five, the serious business of being of growing up but being sweet cuddly young kid. It’s a wonderful age to watch my preppie grow and bloom right now. He still needs us for so much but is pushing so hard for independence and freedom. Today he will be able read some of his own birthday cards and messages and when everything is done and dusted he’ll even be able to draw and write thank you notes.…
