Ideas, goals, ponderings, things and thoughts for 2014…..

So I don’t like using the word “resolutions” when we are talking about the start of a new year. It’s an ingrained thing within many, that with the dawn of a new year we look for a fresh start or a do over of things from the previous year. The words “New Years Resolutions” conjure up angst for many people about what happens if they fail or don’t achieve the desired outcome they had declared to all. I personally prefer to work more organically with things in my life. For me life, it’s patterns, routines and moods can change at…

Sometimes I thrift in disguise…..

I have been hunting around of late for new and exciting finds, for home but always for the business. I’ve even adopted a new technique of wearing disguises when out treasure hunting. But it hasn’t helped one single bit, and I have no idea why. I jest, I got snapped recently by my dear friend and op shop volunteer at my favourite op shop. I always love my visits and I’m always happy to seize and opportunity to give them a laugh, even if it’s at my expense and ridiculousness. I never need a disguise when I visit there and…

Taking on Weekend Market Selling with a Baby…..

This past week and weekend has been full on, what with life with three kids, Sarah being sick, doctors appointments and preparations for our first market since Fraser’s arrival. My poor girl has spent most of the week, battling seriously high temperatures with no known cause for the best part of last week. It’s a mystery to us and to the doctor as to what has been wrong with her. Come Friday she was in better spirits and Saturday morning she seemed to be much more her normal self. So we chanced it and decided that Cohen would have special…

What I’ve learnt since opening an Etsy Store….

As many of you will remember I finally opened our Etsy store towards the later end of Fraser’s pregnancy. In the short time our Etsy store has been up and running, I’ve learnt some useful lessons. So I thought I’d share what I’ve learnt, with many people asking me lately about my thoughts on Etsy and if they should give it a go. SALES! They will happen, don’t expect to have a sale within days of opening your store (although you could be lucky), it takes a little bit of time and effort to finesse your listings and store presentation. If you’re…

Florist Shop Display Update and Lessons…..

It’s been ages since I’ve given an update on my little display of garments from my business at the florist shop. Since meeting Leanne late last year and forming this mutually beneficial relationship, we have also become firm friends. Every few weeks I pop into the shop to check on my display and have a few hours chatting with Leanne whilst having morning tea, and catching up while floral arrangements are made and customers come into the shop.I’ve been asked several times recently by local creative and market friends how things have been going with the shop display and sales.…

{Etsy} MyVintageChildhoodxo store finally opened….

I think you all know by now I keep myself busy, and I’ve spent the majority of this pregnancy working on all my business and blog plans so they’d be bubbling along nicely with another baby joining our brood within weeks. I am proud and happy to announce that my Etsy store is now opened, it’s been open for a week or so now. Please note the store name MyVintageChildhoodxo the “xo” was the crucial element to solving our store name issues that you might remember me referring to a while back.  The fabulous banner design which compliments the blog’s…

Our First Market Round Up…..

Well we’ve got our first market under our belt, even if we packed up early because of…….yep that’s right RAIN. But despite that there are major smiles and loads of joy in the My Vintage Childhood camp from our first market adventure. To paint you a picture imagine Saturday morning blue skies and a few non-threatening looking clouds, and hopes of a perfect Autumn day on the Gold Coast high in our hearts. We got to the Timeless Treasures Market site and along with other outside stall holders made ourselves busy with our stall set up. When while finessing our…

{Business} What’s news and a question for you….

I continue to do business update posts and how we are moving forward with things, because I want to inspire and encourage others (especially stay at home mums) who have been dreaming up little dreams for themselves. I want to show that with time and patience you can weave your way. If you do have a little business or something you’re weaving your way with or dreaming of it, please consider answering the question at the end of this post. I’d love to hear about your stories and dreams. Most of you know by now that a lot of hours…

Rain, rain go away, market day another day…..

Well I had hoped this posted was going to full to the brim of all the exciting news and highlights from our first market day. Unfortunately Mother Nature had other things planned for Saturday and as a result the market was cancelled for all stall holders. Never fear we have plans in place for another market day very soon. I will keep you all posted.Despite the disappoint of the market being cancelled the Big V and I had the most splendid day. We have very rare opportunities where it’s just him and I with no little people in tow. So…

Unexpected bird watching and a lesson in business….

Do you know when packing a bag to go bird watching what the essential list items to take are? You do know? What about if you’re a nearly four year old, would that change your list? Well Cohen’s essential list (mind you I should say suggested list which we had to edit down) yesterday included: Skipping rope, because that’s what you do when bird watching right? Full body, voice animated Buzz Lightyear costume with inflatable wings, essential I would say wouldn’t you? I’ll let you conjure up the mental image of inflatable wings and the attempted effort of said child…
